About Gerrit Illenberger

Gerrit Illenberger made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera in 2026 as Melisso in Alcina under the musical direction of Stefano Montanari. Previously, the baritone was a member of the Young Ensemble at Semperoper Dresden, where he appeared as Schaunard in La Bohème. A regular guest at the Heidenheim Opera Festival, he has performed Rodrigo in Don Carlo and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly. He has also appeared under the baton of Kirill Petrenko at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival and at the Berlin Philharmonie in Die Frau ohne Schatten. His concert repertoire, spanning works from the Baroque to contemporary music, has taken him to venues including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Pierre Boulez Saal Berlin. Illenberger studied voice at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Andreas Schmidt and received formative artistic impulses from Thomas Hampson as part of the Heidelberg Lied Academy.
