After completing her Matura for piano and singing studies and a Master's degree in "Interpreting for Italian" at the University of Vienna, Evamaria Wieser began her professional career at the Holender Theatre Agency (Vienna) before joining the Artistic Management Office of the Munich State Opera in 1980.
From 1990 she worked with Gerard Mortier at the Salzburg Festival and from 1992 to 2001 she was head of the artistic management office. From 2002 to 2004 she also held this position at the newly founded "RuhrTriennale" and at the same time prepared Gerard Mortier's management at the Paris Opera.
From autumn 2004 to 2011 she returned to the Salzburg Festival as Artistic Director under Peter Ruzicka, Jürgen Flimm and Markus Hinterhäuser. In 2008 the "Young Singers Projects" was founded there, of which she was the director from 2009 to 2011. From 2001 to 2015, she was consultant to the Salzburg Easter Festival.
Since 2008 she is European Casting Consultant of the Lyric Opera Chicago, advises the casting of many special projects and is a jury member of several important singing competitions.
From October 2016 to October 2018 she worked again as Artistic Director at the Salzburg Festival; since November 2018 she has been responsible for casting there. In addition, since 2015 she has again been in charge of the Festival's Young Singers Projects.
