Elisabeth Ehlers was born in Wuppertal and grew up in a musical family. From an early age she was an enthusiastic concert-goer but was not so keen on practicing the cello. After passing her final school examinations (Abitur), specializing in classics, and following a year spent studying in England as well as French-speaking Switzerland, she started a business apprenticeship with the Wylach Concert Agency, which at the time was one of the largest in the industry. During her six years with KD Wylach, she learned the ins and outs of artist management and tour planning. Her “favorite occupation” was planning Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau’s recital tours.
In 1984, Elisabeth Ehlers set up her own business in Munich together with Lothar Schacke. Her particular preference for lieder and her work for and with lieder accompanist Irwin Gage soon resulted in contacts with numerous interesting singers, among them the unforgettable Arleen Auger, who played a central part in setting up the singing department at the KünstlerSekretariat am Gasteig agency. Elisabeth Ehlers also works for Julia Fischer and Vilde Frang, two outstanding violinists of our time.
