Franco Vassallo is one of Italy’s leading baritones and has there been acclaimed at Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Regio di Parma and at the Arena di Verona.
He has also made several significant international debuts at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Vienna State Opera, German Opera and State Opera Berlin, Opernhaus Zürich, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Baden-Baden Festival, Hamburg State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Teatro Real de Madrid, Teatro de São Carlos in Lisbon as well as in Bilbao, Amsterdam, Paris, Washington, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
During the last years Franco performed a variety of roles from Belcanto roles like Ernesto/IL PIRATA, Don Alfonso/LUCREZIA BORGIA or Nottingham/ROBERTO DEVEREUX over the big Verdi roles like Miller/LUISA MILLER, RIGOLETTO, FALSTAFF, Jago/OTELLO, SIMON BOCCANEGRA, Amonasro/AIDA, Luna/IL TROVATORE, Don Carlo/LA FORZA DEL DESTINO, Don Carlo/ERNANI, Renato/UN BALLO IN MASCHERA up to Puccini’s Michele/IL TABARRO, Scarpia/TOSCA and Ponchielli’s Barnaba/LA GIOCONDA in prestigious houses like the Bavarian State Opera, the Dutch National Opera Amsterdam, the Hamburg State Opera, the Frankfurt Opera, the La Monnaie Bruxelles, as well as at the Liceu Barcelona, the Verdi Festival Parma, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the National Opera in Riga. Moreover, he was a guest at the Bolschoi Moscow, the Opéra de Paris, the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Opera Zurich and the Royal Opera House London.
His most recent engagements brought him to Amsterdam in FEDORA, to Liceu Barcelona as Amonasro/AIDA, to Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as Michele/IL TABARRAO and to Frankfurt with RIGOLETTO. He also performed I PURITANI at the Opera di Roma, a gala with IL PIRATA in Dortmund as well as TOSCA at the Puccini Festival Torre del Lago and Alfio/Tonio in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA/PAGLIACCI in Salerno.
Upcoming projects include L‘AMICO FRITZ at Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Amonasro/AIDA in Naples and Miller/LUISA MILLER at the Hamburg state Opera and in Bologna as well as FRANCESCA DA RIMINI in Tokyo and TOSCA at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago.
